AFR Backs JenaNelson for Oklahoma State Superintendent

September 27, 2022 (Oklahoma City, OK) – One of Oklahoma’s largest agriculture organizations, American Farmers & Ranchers (AFR) PAC, has endorsedJena Nelson for Oklahoma State Superintendent of Public Instruction.

AFR emphasized Nelson’s rural roots and policy priorities as the primary drivers of the coveted endorsement.

"The AFR PAC prioritizes rural Oklahoma,”Scott Blubaugh, AFR PAC Chairman, said. “We support rural communities and rural schools are a vital part of those communities. Right now, rural public schools need a committed champion for their success. Jena Nelson has a rural background and will be a fighter for Oklahoma’s rural public schools. That’s why we’ve endorsed Jena Nelson for state superintendent."

Nelson,Oklahoma 2020 Teacher of the Year, has made protecting rural schools and communities a priority of her platform.

“As someone who attended rural schools growing up, I care about our rural communities where schools are central today-to-day life and I am honored to receive the support of AFR,” Nelsons aid. “Everyone talks about how essential public schools are to our rural communities, but no one talks about how our public schools can actually help revitalize these communities. While we must collaborate with legislators to fully fund our public schools, it’s important that we allow our rural schools the autonomy to make the decisions for their communities in order to keep their schools open and thriving. We need innovative solutions that lift up our rural schools, not limit them.”

AFR provides educational, legislative and cooperative programs across the state and serves as a watchdog for Oklahoma’s family farmers and ranchers and rural communities. The organization is actively supportive of the state’s agricultural industry and rural population with membership consisting of farmers actively involved in production agriculture and non-farmers adding their voice in support of AFR principles.
